The person behind the camera

Hi, I’m Shyanna.

Photographer, toddler mom, chronic book collector, enthusiastic thrifter, and the friend who rarely says no to an adventure.

I started photography at nineteen as a hobby and fell completely in love with it.

Moving often made building a steady clientele difficult. In nine years, home meant Tennessee, Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Maine while my husband served in the Air Force. Then I became Emmy’s mom, and photography began to mean something different.

One of my most treasured photographs is not elaborate or perfectly planned. My mom took it on Thanksgiving while I was rocking and breastfeeding Emmy, tucked away in a quiet moment from all the holiday ruckus. It reminds me that the photographs we hold closest are often the ones that simply preserve how life felt.

What I believe

Let the toddler lead.

Beautiful photographs do not require every moment to be scripted. We can play, move, explore, take breaks, and follow your child’s curiosity. I’ll keep everyone comfortable, probably yap a little too much, and make space for your family to look and feel like yourselves.

Motherhood taught me how quickly the smallest things become the things you miss most. That is why I want to preserve them for other families.

Life outside the viewfinder

A little cottage-core, a little chaotic.

At home

Emmy and I fill our days with the library, gymnastics, books, coloring, Play-Doh, and as much outside time as the Tennessee heat allows. She eats tomatoes straight from the vine and helps me pick the dead blooms from my flowers.

Making things

I garden, sew clothes for Emmy and me, and love giving thrifted pieces a new life. My best finds are cottage-core maxi dresses and hand-embroidered cowboy boots covered in flowers.

Books and plants

I read historical fiction, thrillers, and romance, usually with too many books waiting. I also have too many plants that inevitably die, except for the grocery-store monstera I bought because I had one in Animal Crossing, and a pink princess philodendron my husband gave me after I passed my Series 7, 66, and 63. And yes, I also used to be an investment advisor. I contain multitudes.

Always say yes

I love spontaneous plans. Pack the kids a snack and let’s go. I’ll say yes to a trip, a playdate, or even a Costco run with a friend. I moved across the country two months postpartum, which was either brave, mildly unhinged, or most likely both.

A life in motion

Coming home meant doing motherhood together.

After years of moving, we came back to Tennessee to be close to family. I knew I did not want to do motherhood alone, and having our people nearby made this feel like home again.

I still love to travel and will happily say yes to an adventure. Hawaii holds a special place in my heart, and Ireland is next on my wish list, preferably with Emmy along for the story.

I’m loyal, goofy, kind, and very much a yes-woman. If that sounds like someone you could relax around, I think we’ll make something beautiful together.
